Trapani is the capital of the westernmost province of Sicily. Its maritime vocation has made it one of the most important centers in the Mediterranean for sea trade. Among the most significant activities are fishing and the extraction of sea salt, the latter still practiced using traditional methods rooted in centuries past, only partially adapting to new technologies. Trapani is also known as "the city of the two seas" as it is located precisely at the point where two seas meet: the Tyrrhenian and the Sicilian Channel.
